Gérald WILLIG Aviation Photographer Portrait

“As a photographer and print artist I want to offer only the best!”

Gérald WILLIG, a passion for photography and aviation

Born and raised in Normandy, FRANCE, I developed a passion for photography, aviation and history as a little boy.

I was 9 years old when I had one of my first experiences with photography. My parents took me to Deauville airport in Normandy to see the arrival of American troops for the celebration of the 40th D-Day anniversary with the U.S. President Ronald Reagan. That was the trigger.

Worked in collaboration with some of the largest international airlines for more than 13 years at Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) as a Planning Manager.

Now, as an aviation artist photographer, I want to highlight the beauty of the airplanes that I love, and pay homage to the men and women who made and continue to make aviation history. Photography is a wonderfull way to connect the past to the present.

Like the Impressionist painters of my native region (along the Seine valley), I love to play with the light, a precise composing and framing to enhance the lines, curves, textures, colors of these exceptional machines through my lenses. The sky, of which I like to enhance all the nuances, occupies a prominent place in some of my creations.

Black and white also holds an important place in my photographic work. Because my artistic vision cannot be satisfied with restricting myself only to color. For some photographs, black and white expresses more adequately this vision of aviation that I wish to spotlight and share with all generations.

Now I’m based in Orange County, California USA, where I live with my Californian wife and our French-American daughter. It’s a family affair as we all share the same passion.

My inspirations:

The Aéropostale (Saint-Exupéry, Mermoz, Guillaumet…) , La Fayette Escadrille (Eddie Rickenbacker, Eugene Bullard…), WWII landing beaches and the Battle of Normandy (tribute to the Allies and the French Resistance), Normandie-Niémen Squadron, warbird lover, civil aviation (local and international airports), aeronautical museums, Franco-American friendship (#brotherhood)…

My aims are to have positive impacts like:

  • Share the passion for aviation, history and photography.

  • Contribute to the promotion and preservation of aeronautical heritage through my work and quality projects.

  • Highlighting the men and women who have contributed or who contribute to the aeronautical adventure (aviators, mechanics, engineers, all enthusiasts, institutions, etc.).

Let's continue to transmit the passion of aviation and keep them flying!
