from $750.00

Douglas C-47 ‘Skytrain’ with the D-Day Invasion Stripes (Operation Overlord, also known as Battle of Normandy) - FRANCE © Gérald WILLIG

This photograph is a tribute to the Douglas C-47 'Skytrain' and C-53 'Skytrooper' crews and paratroopers of The 82nd Airborne Division and the 101st Airborne Division, who participated with courage and heroism in the liberation of my region of Normandy as part of D-Day on June 6, 1944.

Approximately 13,100 American paratroopers from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions conducted parachute drops, followed by 3,937 glider infantrymen, on June 6. As the opening maneuver of the Normandy landings, the two American airborne divisions were dropped in Normandy via two parachute and six glider missions.

Invasion stripes were alternating black and white bands painted on the fuselages and wings of Allied aircraft during World War II to reduce the chance that they would be attacked by friendly forces during and after the Normandy Landings.

Incredibly accurate color reproduction, outstanding image clarity, and enhanced detail in darker areas distinguish each print.

On fine art papers, higher black density renders even the finest shadow detail, for a print that becomes a work of art.

The professional pigment inks offer accurate reproduction and enhanced print longevity.

Pictures are reproduced at an ultra-high resolution for an outstanding quality with premium pigment inks and museum grade papers.

By example for the prints made by Gerald WILLIG himself, on Hahnemühle papers, Fine Art Prints have a resolution of 2400 dpi horizontally* x 1200 dpi vertically.

* Prints with a minimum 1/2400 inch dot pitch between ink droplets

The finished size of each photograph is dependent on the final size you have selected among the different available options on this website. There’s a minimum of 1” outside white border on all prints that acts as a seamless mat (with the exception of custom special on demand printing like Acrylic Prints). This leaves a border around the image providing room to mount and frame it.
