The La Fayette Escadrille (French: Escadrille de La Fayette) was the name of the French Air Force unit escadrille N 124 during the First World War (1914–1918). This escadrille of the Aéronautique Militaire was composed largely of American volunteer pilots flying fighters. It was named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, French hero of the American Revolutionary War.
The great Lafayette Escadrille ace was Raoul Lufbery. Born in France of an American father and French mother, he had been a world traveler before the war and served as the mechanic for famed French exhibition pilot Marc Pourpe. Lufbery shot down 16 German aircraft while flying for the Lafayette Escadrille – nearly half of the squadron’s total number of victories. He later died in combat.
In September 1917, the escadrille was transferred to the US Army under the designation 103rd Aero Squadron. In 1921, The French Air Force recreated a N124 unit who claimed lineage from the war-time La Fayette escadrille and is now part of the escadron 2/4 La Fayette.

Incredibly accurate color reproduction, outstanding image clarity, and enhanced detail in darker areas distinguish each print.
On fine art papers, higher black density renders even the finest shadow detail, for a print that becomes a work of art.
The professional pigment inks offer accurate reproduction and enhanced print longevity.
Pictures are reproduced at an ultra-high resolution for an outstanding quality with premium pigment inks and museum grade papers.
By example for the prints made by Gerald WILLIG himself, on Hahnemühle papers, Fine Art Prints have a resolution of 2400 dpi horizontally* x 1200 dpi vertically.
* Prints with a minimum 1/2400 inch dot pitch between ink droplets
The finished size of each photograph is dependent on the final size you have selected among the different available options on this website. There’s a minimum of 1” outside white border on all prints that acts as a seamless mat (with the exception of custom special on demand printing like Acrylic Prints). This leaves a border around the image providing room to mount and frame it.
